Reflection of Life
For the Late Johnnie “Pop” Jones
July 18, 1918 – March 13, 2015
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelations 21:4
Through all of our pain and tears, we give reverence today to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for blessing our dear sweet loved one with ninety- six beautiful years on earth. Born on July 18, 1918 in Hampton County, South Carolina, he was one of four children born to the late John Jones and the late Jerleen Copeland Jones Donaldson. No man knows the time when their name will be called to give up their worldly Tabernacle; therefore, God sent his angels to claim his very own, Friday, March 13, 2015 at the Jenni Lynn Assistant Living Facility, West Columbia, South Carolina.
He was educated in the public schools of Hampton County. At an early age, he was baptized and joined Second Baptist Church, Brunson, SC. After moving to Jersey City, NJ, he united with the Christian Church of Bayonne, Bayonne, NJ, where he served faithfully until he returned back home to Brunson, South Carolina. Upon returning to South Carolina, he reunited himself with Second Baptist Church, Brunson, SC. His favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Evelyn Bing Jones. This union was blessed with four children. After moving to Jersey City, NJ, he had three additional children.
He is preceded in death by: his parents, one brother, Sam Jones and two sisters, Iola Jones Adam and Verdell Jones Gray.
He leaves his legacy to live on with his family; as they celebrate his memories: Daughters; Bertha J. Vaughn (Late Frank), Geraldine J. McIlwain (Late William) both of Columbia, SC, and Xavier Gray, Jersey City, NJ; Sons, J. Melvin (Mary) Jones, Owings, MD, Harold J. (Janet) Jones, Columbia, SC, William Gray (Late Agnes), and James Gray both of Jersey City, NJ; a devoted cousin, Fannie M (Rev. Wesley) Williams, Brunson, SC; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, loving and caring family and sympathizing friends.
